About Us
The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa considers kindness, respect, compassion, awareness and integrity sacrosanct in all aspects of our mission and vision for a cruelty free society
The Animal Welfare Society of SA offers a full range of veterinary services to the underprivileged and disadvantaged communities of Cape Town. We have 4 fully equipped theatres where we do sterilisations, orthopaedic and other operations. We can house, at any given time, more than 175 sick or injured animals. We are committed to sterilising and microchipping every animal that comes through our doors in order to contribute to reducing the number of homeless and stray animals and animal cruelty. Our Inspectorate team responds to calls for any animals in distress or displaced, including sick and injured strays, errant wildlife and cases of animal cruelty, abuse and neglect. We also have an adoption’s department. We take in strays and surrendered pets to find them loving forever homes. Each adoptee is medically and behaviorally assessed, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for ticks and fleas, microchipped and sterilised and we do pre and post home checks.
We have a growing number of happy adopters and pets in the greater Cape Town community.
At the heart of everything we do is a deep commitment to animal welfare. We provide a safe haven for unwanted, stray, and abandoned animals, ensuring they find loving homes through our successful adoption program. Our mission goes beyond sheltering—we actively prosecute cases of animal cruelty and educate schools and communities about the benefits and importance of animal welfare.
Our efforts extend to running a bustling welfare hospital that serves the pets of lower-income groups providing vital primary health care to sick and injured animals in underprivileged areas. With a reach spanning over 4,000 square kilometers across the Cape Metro, our focus is especially on the Cape Flats, where the need is greatest.
We are based in Philippi and rely almost entirely on the kindness and generosity of the public, trusts, foundations, and our valued corporate partners. Together, we’re creating a brighter future for every animal in need.
